about this event
Sunday A’Fair
noon – 4 p.m.
Sunday A’Fair showcases Arizona-based musical acts ranging from blues, country, and jazz to R&B, rock, pop, and more. The concerts take place in Scottsdale Civic Center Mall on selected Sunday afternoons from January 12 through March 29. Along with free musical entertainment, each Sunday A’Fair includes a pop-up arts market.
Featured Bands:
The Tumbleweeds
Noon – 1:30 p.m.
Fountain Stage
The Tumbleweeds play the timeless southwestern sounds of western swing, honky–tonk, and the traditional country music that will get you dancing and feeling good. This Albuquerque band plays the music of Bob Wills, Ray Price, Ernest Tubb, and Hank Williams with fresh energy that honors a classic sound.
Performing as either a trio or quartet, The Tumbleweeds present danceable and memorable entertainment for special occasions, festivals, dances, or private parties. Featuring Jordan Ripley’s jazz–era vocals, Joe Carter’s bluesy fiddle, Byron Ripley’s twangy guitar, and Dave Klaus’s rock-solid bass.
The Haymarket Squares
2 – 3:30 p.m.
Fountain Stage
Blending acoustic instruments, fast tempos, rich harmonies, and rabble-rousing lyrics, The Haymarket Squares have been bringing punkgrass to audiences since 2009. “They’re smart. They’re funny. They’re raging against the machine in four-part harmony,” says The Arizona Republic of the group’s incisive lyrics and boundless live energy.
That same range of styles and emotions characterizes The Haymarket Squares’ new album, Light It Up. It’s a 12-song summation of the band’s musical influences and lyrical concerns, with tasty dollops of polka, gospel, and Latin percussion mixed into the group’s signature punkgrass sound.
In 2015, The Haymarket Squares were nominated as Best Local Band by Phoenix New Times, which called them “Phoenix’s original protest band” and “one of the most distinctly talented groups in town.” In 2010, less than two years after their humble Craigslist beginnings, The Haymarket Squares won the yearlong Train Tracks band competition in Phoenix, beating out 50 other local acts.
Guests are invited to bring a blanket to sit on the lawn or low-sitting lawn chairs to enjoy great food, friends, and free live performances. Delicious food from the grill, gourmet desserts, cocktails, beer, wine, and soft drinks are also available for purchase. Additionally, patrons can bring their own picnic baskets and pets to the park.
Schedule is subject to change. Events may be canceled due to inclement weather.
