About the Event
Films.Dance is Jacob Jonas The Company’s global platform and creative studio for dance. Through non-traditional collaborations across cultures and continents, Films.Dance produces and presents original film works through the intersection of dance, music, choreography, and fashion.
How it works
Jacob Jonas The Company (JJTC) creatively directs and produces the work on Films.Dance, focusing on themes of celebrating the human spirit; strong relationships to nature; artistic mediums responding to each other through process and result; illustrating diversity in age, culture, background, race, ability, and sexuality, and capturing authentic expression.
The series is centered around non-traditional collaborations, where JJTC pairs artists who have never worked together and who often live in opposite corners of the world. For example, a Montreal-based choreographer worked with a dancer in Shanghai and a composer in London. Two self-taught dancers in Nigeria were in a process with a New York City-based choreographer to a score by a Los Angeles musician. A dancer with disabilities in London learned the choreography of an artist in Australia and performed to a score by a Berlin-based orchestra.
