About the Event

The Balourdet Quartet, recipients of the Grand Prize at the 2021 Concert Artists Guild Victor Elmaleh Competition, shares the stage with Memphis Symphony Orchestra acting principal flutist Adam W. Sadberry.

The Balourdet Quartet, based in Boston, Massachusetts, is currently in residence at the New England Conservatory’s Professional String Quartet Program. The quartet received the Grand Prize at the 2021 Concert Artists Guild Victor Elmaleh Competition and the top prize in the 2021 Premio Paolo Borciani in Reggio Emilia, Italy. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the Balourdet Quartet curated and performed in an educational program for more than 500 children in schools across the Michiana region while also giving masterclasses through the Fischoff Chamber Music Academy.

Memphis Symphony Orchestra acting principal flutist Adam W. Sadberry is known for his radiant, lyrical playing, and he’s committed to expanding the Black diaspora in the classical music world through promoting equity, representation, music education, and commissioning music that tells stories of the Black diaspora. Sadberry is extremely motivated to continue the legacy of his late grandfather L. Alex Wilson, an important journalist and unsung hero of the Civil Rights Movement.
