About the Event

Sherry Roberson pays tribute to the legends of jazz and gospel. Jazz enthusiasts will envision great jazz clubs that featured some of the most sought-after singers of that time, such as Ella Fitzgerald. Gospel cohorts will feel the soul stirring songs of influential gospel singer Mahalia Jackson. Roberson will be joined by an all-star band, featuring Beth Lederman on keyboards, Mike King on bass, Jesse McGuire on trumpet, and Dowell Davis on drums, creating a mix of vocals and instruments for a hand-clapping, foot-tapping good time.  

Artist Bio

Roberson, a virtual Valley native, has a long history of club and concert performances, including nearly two decades with The Jazz Divas and several stints overseas in Istanbul. Roberson’s style reflects the blues qualities of Billie Holiday, combined with a hard-swinging, freight–train-like drive. Roberson has a propensity to “play with time” by moving phrases way ahead or behind the beat as the spirit moves her, which gives her spontaneous interpretations special interest and character.
